This morning, our class went carol singing at Rockingham. The residents thoroughly enjoyed listening to the singing and also chatting to the pupils.

As part of our party day, we worked together in teams to make human snow-people using toilet roll and other props. Being the snow-person became pretty hot work – I’m surprised they didn’t melt!
The winning snow-person!
Our books are finally finished and are waiting to be read.
They are based on children playing a computer game who somehow get transported into the actual game, and have to survive the trials of the game for real. We had to focus on interweaving dialogue, action and description.
We have presented our books in the style of a typical book and have ensured that our paragraphs are clearly visible and a new line is started for a new person speaking. We had to do a lot of editing before this stage to ensure that our punctuation, grammar and spelling was accurate.
Some children decided to create their book covers by hand…
whilst others chose to design theirs on the computer.
Today, we have been investigating how the length of a shadow changes as the light moves closer to an object. We used the following equipment: a little card figure, a torch, a background and some rulers. We positioned the torch 30 cm away from the figure and measured the height of the shadow. We then moved the torch nearer to the figure by 5 cm and measured the height again. We repeated the process every 5 cm and recorded our results.
We found that our predictions were correct.
The shorter the distance between the torch and the figure, the larger the shadow.
The greater the distance between the torch and the figure, the smaller the shadow.
Today, we have been investigating the angle at which light is reflected off a mirror.
Working together in a group, we shone a torch through a card with a slit in so that we got a thin beam of light. This shone onto the mirror and reflected back off. We drew the light beam and reflected beam onto our paper, and carefully and accurately measured the angle of each with a protractor.
We found that the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection were equal.
Here is our topic map for our short Christmas topic which we started a couple of weeks ago.
Congratulations to our class for raising a whopping £230 at the Christmas Craft Fair. With some terrific sales techniques, we managed to sell every last item. Well done everyone!
