Museum Day

During our topic work this term, we have been creating our own museum. The hard work all built up to the first opening of the ‘Birdwell Museum of British History’ on Wednesday. We displayed all of our learning around the classrooms and corridors for parents, friends, family and teachers to come and take a look. We even managed to open a cafe section and have sample food from the 6 different periods of history. This included:

  • WW2 Poor Knights Fritters
  • Victoria Sandwich cake
  • Tudor Cornish Pasties
  • Viking Bread
  • Anglo-Saxon Honey Shortbread
  • Roman Pancakes

Take a look at some of the pictures below!

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art developed in the 1940’s and 1950’s by martial artists who combined elements of karate and Chinese martial arts with Korean martial arts traditions. Taekwondo is characterised by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning, and fast kicking techniques. Our school was lucky enough to have a student from Sheffield Hallam on placement with us who enjoyed sharing her expertise with most classes throughout school during their P.E. Lessons. These photos show Y6 enjoying their tutorial.

The Royal Radio

This week in literacy me (Jola), Ella-Mae, Sean and Justin have been recording our radio show about King Duncan’s death and investing who the murderer is (from the script Macbeth).

Olympics Day

Sport is the common denominator in the world that brings everyone together and where there is one place to find equality. Sport should not be about routine, it should be about passion.

On Monday 12th March, 2018, our school along with 20 other primary schools around South Yorkshire took part in an Olympics Athletics Day at The Institute of Sport in Sheffield. Twenty children from our Y5 and Y6 classes took part in lots of athletic events over a full day. What a fantastic experience for the children. They really enjoyed taking part in events that they wouldn’t normally get the opportunity to experience.

At the end of the competition, our school finished 4th out of the 21 schools, which we feel is terrific, we are very proud of their achievement, sportsmanship and their respect for each other. Their commitment, belief and positive attitudes were contagious. Well done to all who took part.

Maths Booster

Our first morning back after the half term break, we thought we would start with a game of dominoes to demonstrate our subtraction/money skills. We had great fun, trying to work out the answer before anyone else so that we could get rid of all our dominoes to win the game. Our speed and subtraction skills definitely improved!
