Football Competition – Last Round

Our Team: Oliver Bentley, Joel Flewitt-Wardley, Sam Watson, Luke Robinson, Bailey Briscoe, Finlay Bailey, Ellis Brown, Max Mayhew, Owen Ward.

Friday 9th February saw the last round of games in the football competition. Birdwell played Jump Primary in the first game and won two nil with superb goals from Sam Watson and Max Mayhew. A great team effort from all players contributed to this brilliant game of football with exceptional defending by Luke Robinson and Finlay Bailey. In the goal was Mr ‘Safe Hands’ himself, Bailey Briscoe who made outstanding saves.

Second game came against Hoyland Common Primary. Early in the game, a penalty presented us an opportunity to take the lead, however, Ellis unluckily blasted it too wide, then Hoyland took advantage and scored their first goal taking a one nil lead putting Birdwell under pressure for a time which led to Finlay Bailey and Luke Robinson again showing off their defensive skills.

Just before halftime time, a substitution was made swapping Oliver Bentley for Sam Watson as the game required size and strength.

The lads enjoyed their half time oranges, boosting their energy for the tough second half with another substitution of Max Mayhew for Owen Ward for the start and another exchanging Joel Flewitt-Wardley let to give Oliver Bentley another quick burst in the hope of bringing the game back. A shot at goal came from Ellis Brown, but too wide again and the game was soon dangerously back in the Birdwell half although this caused no anxiety for Mr ‘Safe Hands’

At full time the score stayed one nil to Hoyland Common. A good game, with a great display of sportsmanship from both sides.

BOCCIA

Hoyland Common primary held this year’s sport partnership school Boccia
Our team comprised of Ellie Simms, Holly Streets, Ruby Jubb, Caitlin Dickinson, Amelia Wood and Lilly Hetherington. We also took our new boy, Sebastian Bradshaw, but he actually played for another school who were short of players.
Our fabulous team performed tremendous games against other schools and winning most of their games to boot.
Boccia is a precision ball sport where players propel balls to land close to the target ball. This sport requires strategy and accuracy and incredible skill. All our players were excellent at this game and made some very strategic moves.

Macbeth in literacy

For the past few weeks we have been learning about the play Macbeth which I have quite enjoyed🐵. First we acted out parts of the first few scenes. I was in a group with Alex and Katie. Now we are writing a scrip for a tv news report. I am working with Alex, Katie and Seth. The news report is about King Duncan’s death😳. I am looking forward to filming it tomorrow😜.

Y5/Y6 FOOTBALL COMPETITION

Y5 / Y6 FOOTBALL COMPETITIONS
26th January saw Birdwell Primary Y5/6 boys perform at a football competition held at Greenfield Primary. Some action shots are published here. our team: Luke Robinson, Jake Speight, Max Mayhew, Owen Ward, Sam Watson, Bailey Briscoe and Finlay Bailey.

The games saw Birdwell ease into the lead through goals from Sam Watson. They badly needed to win to put their winning bid back on track, but the other teams were too strong due to the illness of the Birdwell player Ellis Brown who is now back to full fitness and ready for the next game.

Making great use of our gym equipment by having a carousel of equipment.
There is an important water station for children to rehydrate as they go around the carousel of exercises, highlighting the importance of children needing to bring a drinks bottle on P.E days.

Our understanding of what Roman life was like got a boost today…

We had a very special visitor today. Andrew Kyrover brought us some amazing artefacts from The Discovery museum and filled our heads full of amazing facts about them!

Andrew was really interesting and we learned lots of useful information.

We then got our hands on real, 2000 year old Roman artefacts and Andrew set us different challenges.

We had to identify Roman coins, figure out their value, measure them and create a rubbing of them…

The items included toys, weapons, oil lamps, jewellery and even a Roman cup that used the sun to cool their wine!!!

We learned that Romans made the finest concrete ever made, it was even waterproof! They invented rust proof nails and glass windows as well as hundreds of words that we use every day.

It was a brilliant workshop, thank you Andrew
